The game shut the box has been enjoyed for centuries and is still a fun family game today. Shut the Box is a tabletop tavern game. Its exact beginnings aren't known but it has been played for years in France and England. There is even a similar game played in Africa.

Shut-the-Box is a tavern game. Tavern games are those that originated or were traditionally played in taverns. Games have been linked to drinking establishments for hundreds of years. Traditional games like Shut-the-Box or Skittles were originally played in pubs or taverns. Today, gambling, drinking games, and even physical games like darts and pool are all commonly played in modern bars.

Skittles is a tabletop game which makes it perfect for a crowded pub or tavern. Tabletop games are those that can be played on a table. Some examples of these are board games or card games. Tabletop games fit in a small space which make them great for crowded bars. Shut the Box, for example can be played on a space the size of a bar table making it convenient and entertaining.

Shut the Box has many names. It's been called Tric-Trac, Canoga, Klackers and High Rollers. Today, Shut the Box is still a fun family game for all ages. It can be played with two people or a whole group and there are variations on the classic game.

There are a number of variations of Shut the Box. But the general rules of the game say that player one rolls the dice and lays down the number of tiles that matches their roll. That player continues rolling until their roll cannot match the remaining tiles. It is then the next person's turn. This continues onto the next player. At the end of the game, the person with the lowest score is the winner. If a player lays down all of the tiles, they have Shut-The-Box.

The winner of Shut the Box is the player with the lowest score or the one that has Shut the Box. Shut the Box continues until every player has had 3 turns. Then the score is counted and the winner declared. Shut the Box is often played for stakes like money. This is not strictly a gambling game and can be played with family and just for fun too!

Shut the Box has a number of variations. The different versions usually have different rules or different numbers of tiles. The classic Shut the Box is called missionary and usually follows the rules I just described. Three Down Extreme takes numbers 1 through 3 out of the game and plays with the remaining numbers. Lucky Number Seven only leaves the number 7 for game play. Even Stevens only plays with even numbers. These are just a few of the variations of the game.

The classic tabletop tavern game has been enjoyed for hundreds of years. Shut the Box was loved as a pub game. It is just as exciting for groups, in bars, or for families today as it was years ago.
